Mother and Child
Images of mother and child seem to have attracted the attention of artists from very earliest times,
and why not? The bond between women and their children is never so clear as in these tender early years. While
many struggle to provide, the love between mother and child is a source of wonder, assurance, evocation and awe.
From time to time, I'm drawn to this image as it speaks archtypal relationship, strength and tenderness.

The original title of this painting was Mama ni Mtoto, Swahili for Mother
and Child. This woman and her baby, of Wema, Kenya, had come to a clinic where my sisters served for many years.
